Hot Wheels Card Creases — How Graders Score Them
Does a crease in the Hot Wheels card kill the grade?
Yes for the high-grade bands. Any crease that's visible in normal indoor light caps the card at AFA 80 / CAS 80. A through-paper crease (light shows through when held to a lamp) caps at AFA 70. Card creases are unrecoverable and one of the strongest SKIP signals.
Creases are the cleanest binary call in Hot Wheels grading. Either the card has one or it doesn't. If it does, the grade band drops by one (sometimes two), and there's nothing the seller can do about it. Pre-grading exists to keep you from paying $30 to confirm the obvious.
Crease types
Three crease severities you'll see:
- ↦Surface crease: white line in the print, no paper-fiber damage. AFA 80 cap.
- ↦Through-crease: visible from both sides of the card. AFA 70 cap.
- ↦Compound crease (two intersecting): AFA 60 or below.

Frequently asked questions
Can a crease in a Hot Wheels card be flattened out?+
Pressing flattens the paper but leaves the print-layer micro-fracture. Graders catch it under raking light.
