AFA vs CAS vs WATA — Which Grades Hot Wheels Best?
Which company should grade my Hot Wheels — AFA, CAS, or WATA?
CAS is the dominant choice for modern Hot Wheels (2007+) thanks to published subgrades and faster turnaround. AFA is the standard for vintage (Redline 1968-1977) and Super Treasure Hunts where the AFA premium is established in auction comps. WATA is rare for diecast — only use for ultra-high-end Redlines.
Three graders, three different value propositions. Picking the right one for your casting affects both your final grade and your resale ceiling.
CAS — Collectible Authentication Services
Founded specifically for diecast. Publishes the card / bubble / paint subgrades openly on the slab, which buyers prefer for transparency. 3-5 week turnaround is fastest of the three. Best choice for modern Hot Wheels.
AFA — Action Figure Authority
Multi-category grader (action figures, video games, sealed toys). Strongest auction-comp history for vintage Redlines and Super Treasure Hunts. 4-8 week turnaround.
WATA — Video game / sealed media
Primarily a sealed-video-game grader. Diecast support is limited; only use when the casting has WATA-specific auction history (very rare).

Frequently asked questions
Is CAS as respected as AFA for Hot Wheels?+
For modern Hot Wheels (2007+), CAS is now the default. For vintage Redlines, AFA's 30-year auction history still commands a small premium at the same grade.
