Hot Wheels Blister Lifting — Severity & Reseal Red Flags
Does a lifting Hot Wheels blister still grade?
Partial lifting (≤10mm along the perimeter, no air ingress) caps the grade at AFA 80 / CAS 80. Lifting longer than 15mm or any lift that lets air into the bubble drops to AFA 70 or lower and frequently gets reclassified as a reseal — automatic SKIP. Fresh-looking glue near the lift is a major reseal red flag.
Blister lifting is where pre-grading earns its keep. Many lifting cards are honest — adhesive failure from age or heat. Others are resealed, and submitting a resealed card gets you blacklisted at AFA/CAS. Knowing the difference saves the $25-$40 fee and protects your seller reputation.
Honest lift vs reseal indicators
Look for these tells before you submit:
- ↦Adhesive color matches the surrounding glue → honest age lift
- ↦Fresh, whiter, slightly-tacky glue near the lift → suspect reseal
- ↦Lift starts at a corner, follows the seal line → honest
- ↦Lift in the middle of a seal edge with no corner involvement → suspect tampering
- ↦Card-paper fibers torn cleanly → honest
- ↦Card-paper fibers smashed or doubled-up → reseal

Frequently asked questions
Will AFA grade a Hot Wheels card with a lifting blister?+
Yes — partial lifts ≤10mm with no reseal indicators grade at AFA 80 or below. Major lifts or any reseal flag results in a reject without grading.
Can you reglue a lifting Hot Wheels blister before grading?+
Never. Any visible re-adhesion is a reseal indicator. AFA will reject and may blacklist the submission ID.
